Before the sofa fabric is covered, some fabric pieces need to be sewn together, and welts should be added if necessary.
1. Trial sewing
Trial seam is to temporarily sew two pieces of fabric together, and use trial seam to stitch together. Trial seam is mainly used to help the fabric position, which is convenient for inspection and adjustment. Trial stitches can be made with pins or wide stitches. The pins or sutures used for trial sewing should be removed after the formal sewing.
2. Flat seam
First, put the two pieces of fabric together face-to-face, try sewing with pin and wide stitch, and then remove the pin and thread for formal sewing about 10mm along the edge.
3. Welt seam
First make a lock seam between two pieces of fabric, then cut off a part of one of the seam allowances, and then sew the other seam allowance on it.
4. Inlay
Welts are lines that are inserted when sewing fabrics, and are mainly used to cover seams and trim edges.
5. Patchwork plug cloth and handle cloth
The base, backrest, and armrests are respectively stitched to plug the head cloth. After stitching, a stitching line should be pressed on the original seam. The hard edge of the sofa needs to be sewn with handle cloth, the handle cloth is placed on the bottom layer, the middle is the molding line, and the top is the face. In this way, the ruled line will be straight, and once the handle cloth and the face are nailed flat, the ruled line in the middle will naturally stick out, making the outline of the sofa clear.
6. Dark pins and dark pins
The stitches of the dark needles should not be exposed outside the sofa surface, and are often used for manual stitching of the exposed parts of the sofa surface. Concealed nails are used for the nailing of fabrics with wooden frames.
